Hatchlands Park

Hatchlands Park is a perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors this Autumn, there are trails through the park and woodland, children’s activities including leaf rubbing , as well as exploring the Wizard Wix’s Willow Warren – a natural adventure area featuring hand-crafted willow tunnels, a totem pole, domes and balance beams, wood piles for den building and a tree house.

RHS Garden Wisley, Woking, Surrey, GU23 6QB

Delve into the world of creepy creatures with lots of fun activities, such as making a wooden spider and a 3D ladybird – there’s something to do every day at Wisley from 21st – 29th October!

Activities are free with normal garden admission, unless you opt for the pumpkin carving (25th, 26th, 27th October. Times: 10.30am, 11.15am, noon, 1.30pm, 2.15pm & 3pm), where you will need to book in advance and costs £4 per child (in addition to the garden admission). Children must be 6 years or older for pumpkin carving and must be accompanied by an adult. Click here to book a place.

 

Ghost Tours

october half term halloween activities surreyHampton Court Palace is one of England’s haunting hotspots and on 31st October it is hosting three ghost tours – one for the family at 6.30pm, one for adults at 7.30pm and a late-night event for the very brave at 10.30pm.

This event is a 1¼ to 1½ hours evening walking tour hearing stories of ghostly apparitions and paranormal activity at Hampton Court Palace. The minimum age requirement is 8 years and a maximum of 3 children per accompanying adult.

This Halloween, for one night only, Hampton Court Palace will hold an exclusive late night tour that will take you further into the deepest and darkest secrets of the palace.

Halloween at Nower Wood

Mill Way, Leatherhead, KT22 8QA

Let your child’s imagination run wild as you walk through the woods at night and take part in some traditional Halloween games and spooky crafts, including pumpkin carving! Huddle around the campfire with a hot chocolate and listen to grisly stories and gruesome tales told by a master storyteller. You can come in costume if you wish!

You’ll need shoes suitable for exploring the woods and although you can bring a torch if you want, they recommend keeping them switched off around the centre and on the walks. This event is for 5-10 year olds (not suitable for pushchairs or very young children). All children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking essential – click here.

Pumpkin Week 

Secretts, Chapel Lane, Milford, GU8 5HU

october half term halloween activities surreyI love taking the kids to Secretts and hopping on a tractor ride to go out to the fields to pick a pumpkin. The fields look great with various sized pumpkins and the kids always have fun going in search of the biggest pumpkin! The cost of your pumpkin is based on its size.

In addition to tractor rides to pick pumpkins they also have;

  • A mini tractor play area
  • Haystack play area
  • Face Painting
  • Biscuit decorating

Dates: Tuesday 24th – Sunday 29th October – Trailer rides: 11am -3pm (small cost)

Where: At the PYO area at Secretts. No need to book, just turn up.

 

Chessington Garden Centre

Leatherhead Road, Chessington, KT9 2NG

There are plenty of fun activities going on at Chessington Garden centre this half term, however it is essential that you book tickets in advance, as they are always popular! They run on selected dates from the 7th – 31st October.

Spooky Zoo

‘Spooky Zoo’ offers each visitor a unique chance to encounter, handle and have their photo taken with a variety of exotic reptiles. Each interactive experience lasts approximately 45 minutes during which time visitors will learn from the experts on hand about the fantastic array of reptiles on display which include snakes, crocodiles and lizards.

Creepy Maze

Dare you enter Chessington’s Creepy Maze? Bigger and scarier than ever before, this spine tingling attraction is perfect for those who like the ‘scream’ in Halloween! Filled with a host of “spooktacular” surprises around every corner!

Halloween Circus

Come along in your favourite spooky costumes and join in all the thrills and skills of the circus in this family fun filled show.

Museums at night:

Cosmos, Watts Gallery, Down Lane, Compton, GU3 1DQ

Discover the wonders of the galaxy with special guest Maggie Aderin-Pocock from BBC’s The Sky at Night.

Bring the whole family to discover the mystery and wonder of the galaxy that inspired Watts in a Cosmos-themed late night opening. Visit their pop-up planetarium, create glow-in-the-dark paintings and make a twinkling constellation in a jar.
